Meet the Team
Denver, CO. 2018-2019. If you’ve poked into some of my other samples, then I’ll save you some time: Ad 2 Colorado is a whole lot like Ad 2 Austin, just the Denver chapter. If this is writing sample #1 for you, then I’ll start at the beginning.
Ad 2 Colorado is a not-for-profit organization for young advertising and marketing professionals. I was on their 2018-2019 and 2019-20 Board of Directors as a Communications Co-Chair, and I’m currently on their 2020-21 Board of Directors as both Communications Co-Chair and Secretary.
An affiliate of the Ad Club Colorado and the American Advertising Federation (AAF), Ad 2 Colorado is a community of advertising and marketing professionals, students, and enthusiasts ages 32 and under looking to strengthen their skills, build their network, and champion their community. My Communications Co-Chair, Samantha Nardelli, and I are responsible for Ad 2 Colorado’s website, blog, printed materials, e-blasts, and social media.
As the one in charge of all things copy, I decided to give our members and non-members a peek behind the curtain. Personally, I think it helps to see the faces of an organization. So in an effort to increase awareness and build trust in our brand, I launched a social media highlight of our board members.
I wanted it to be LinkedIn-esque—long enough to inform but short enough to keep you from endlessly scrolling. So I scrapped our crafty short-form and drafted long-form posts for people who were really interested in us. We averaged a click-through rate (CTR) of .3% and 1,103 total impressions per post. Our usual, event-based content averages a CTR anywhere between .06-.1%. Oh, and did I mention I organically grew their Instagram followers from 200 to over 700? :)
Below are a few examples from Ad 2 Colorado’s Facebook page.
Post 1
"Meet Diego. He’s one of our board members, and he's a big part of what makes our Ad 2 world go round.
His job(s)? Diego is our Vice President and Public Service Co-Chair, and he’s also an award-winning filmmaker. He won Filmmaker of the Year through the RAW Artist Program - Denver and, you know, has casually been nominated for an Emmy. Super casual. No big deal. It’s whatever.
What’s he up to now? He currently operates under Ironsmith Films for commercial directing and freelances in creative direction, production, and post-production. When Diego's not working on filmmaking ventures, you can catch him listening to history podcasts or voicing the controversial opinion that the Backstreet Boys are better than NSYNC. (Wasn’t it always ’N Sync? Just us? Okay.)
His pro tip for aspiring filmmakers and photographers? Invest in your lenses! You’ll thank yourself later.
So what’s all this get-to-know-you stuff about anyway? Well, we think it helps to see the faces behind an organization. We want to get to know you, so we figure it’s only fair you get to know us, too! Stay tuned for more board member highlights and, in the meantime, head over to www.ad2colorado.com for more information on the other rad things that make us, us.”

"Meet Thomas. He’s our big cheese, our chief, our leader. He’s kinda like the nucleus to our cell.
His job(s)? Thomas is the president of Ad 2 Colorado (^ dur). And that’s just in his spare time. Day-to-day he works as an account manager at Cactus where he helps meaningful brands put out meaningful work. It’s like the créme-de-la-créme of advertising work, and he’s grateful for it.
His spare-spare time, you ask? He plays basketball recreationally in any and every league that will have him, and, like any true Coloradan, has an undying love for all things mountain. Skis or snowboard? He’s a one-board kinda guy. ::snowboard emoji::
His pro-tip for aspiring advertisers? Your enthusiasm and energy can make a big impact on a project or with a client relationship, so don't be afraid to show it. A dose of humanity can be contagious and make all the difference.

"Meet Andrea. She's one of our board members, and she's kinda, totally the lifeblood of our Public Service campaign.
Her job? She's our Public Service Chair, which means she runs Ad 2 Colorado's 2018-19 Public Service campaign. Each year Ad 2 partners with a local nonprofit organization, and together they produce a (free!) advertising and marketing campaign. So, Andrea runs it. And she manages it. And she oversees an entire team of strategists and creatives. All in her spare time. :muscle: (P.S. Check out this year's client, Women's Wilderness!)
Her "9-5?" (Quoted because is it ever really 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.? Let's be real.) She's a Digital Art Director at Karsh Hagan. Even cooler? You've probably seen her work. Think airport conspiracy theories... #DENFiles.
Her spare-spare time? While it's not easy to come by, she does like to cruise around on her bike, Supernova. Every good sidekick needs a name, after all. Oh! On top of all this, she's planning her wedding. T-minus five months! :bride_with_veil::man_in_tuxedo:
Her pro-tips for you? They're twofold: (1) There is no substitute for good typography—so practice this a ton. And then some more! (2) You should remember you’re almost always designing for everyone but yourself.
